CAYW Collaborative works to support positive development of children, adolescent and youth based on the science of positive developmental psychology. Martin Seligman is the father of Positive Psychology. In 1996, Seligman was elected President of APA and ushered a new era of Positive Psychology. He defined it as scientific study of “human flourishing, characters strengths, happiness and well-being“. His co-founder, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi defined positive psychology as: “the scientific study of positive human functioning and flourishing on multiple levels that include the biological, personal, relational, institutional, cultural, and global dimensions of life.” Positive developmental psychology embraces the principles of positive psychology for positive development across domains and stages of life. The developmental paradigms of Positive education, Positive Parenting and Positive Youth Development are contemporarily the most promising positive psychology approaches to promote overall wellbeing of children, adolescent and young people.
